Cemitas puebla

With a little help from a certain frosted-tipped, Camaro-driving Food Network star, the original shop rose to popularity in the neighborhood but sadly closed down due to a rent dispute. But at the more recently opened outlet, Chicago can still satisfy its craving for these torta-like (but better!) sandwich delights. And it’s a good thing too, since the Cemitas Atomica is a study in sandwich perfection, featuring three types of pork (ham, guajillo-marinated loin, and breaded cutlet), a ton of shredded Oaxacan cheese, rich avocado, and just the right amount of spice from chipotle adobo sauce.

Potbelly

Peter Hastings opened Hindsight, an antique shop, in the Chicago neighborhood of Lincoln Park in 1971 at 2264 North Lincoln Avenue. Hastings started toasting sandwiches on the store’s vintage potbelly burner to serve to customers. The Hindsight store was converted into the Potbelly Sandwich Works restaurant in 1977.

The sandwich menu at the chain restaurants offers a wide selection, all of which are hot. People really enjoy the food at Potbelly, which includes toasty sandwiches, soup, salads, shakes, smoothies, freshly baked potato chips, cookies, and other menu items that may be tailored to their specific tastes.

The James Beard Award-winning chef’s renowned Belgian fries are cooked in duck fat at this brick-filled restaurant, and the gravy that transforms them into poutine makes them Canadian. These are both necessary side dishes for the restaurant’s famous grilled paninis, which don’t so much complicate classics as build upon them, from a slow-roasted pork Cuban to a BBQ brisket that would hold up in the middle of Texas. And, of course, there is a quack sandwich called Overnight Duck Confit, which is slathered in spicy slaw and miso mayonnaise.
